**Healthy Workers Quality Framework Registration is FREE until June 2015 under the Healthy Workers Initiative**

Effective workplace health promotion programs have been shown to have significant benefits to both employees and businesses and consistently show positive returns on investment. The workplace is considered nationally and internationally to be a priority setting to drive health promotion and illness prevention programs, not only for the direct impact they can have on workforce health but the positive flow-on effects from workers' interactions with their families and communities in general.

Workplaces vary considerably across Australia by size, location and industry. Australian workplaces also vary considerably in their current approach to promoting healthy lifestyles for their employees.

Many workplaces are at the beginning of their journey, while others have been investing in programs which have matured over time and are now reaping the rewards including higher retention rates, reduced absenteeism, and higher productivity.

By making healthy choices the easy choices in your workplace, you can improve the health and productivity of your employees.

Benefits of a healthy workplace

Most Australian adults spend around half their waking hours at work. The workplace is therefore an important setting for promoting and supporting good health across the population.


A healthy workplace can increase productivity, reduce sick leave and absenteeism, improve staff morale and motivation and improve workplace relationships.

It is important to remember that healthy workplace programs can be simple and low cost. The most important thing is for the program to be tailored to the needs of your workplace.

The Healthy Living Network provides tools to assess the return on investment and cost benefits to your organisation.

Employers can utilise the Healthy Living Network in a variety of ways, depending on their current environment.

  • Employers can search the directory to find providers of workplace programs for their workplace – this could be free or at cost programs and/or programs that can be adapted
  • Employers who are currently running successfully healthy workplace programs, can apply for Healthy Workers Quality Framework registration
  • It will also enable the program to become searchable by other workplaces, who can potentially adapt to meet their needs (upon your permission)
  • Employers wishing to commence their own in-house healthy workers program can use the workplace principles.
